Action Figures By Source Over Time

Over 3500 action figures in the Happy Beeps Toy Catalog, including Kenner, Hasbro, and Disney productions, at 3 3/4-inch, 6-inch, and 12-inch scales.  Here you can see how the movie, TV, and expanded universe sources have changed for those figures over the 41-year  history of the Star Wars brand.

In the early years, the Original Trilogy was the only game in town except for a handful of toys from the Droids and Ewoks animated television series.  Action Figure production more than doubled in 1997 with the debut of the Star Wars Special Edition, and jumped again by half in 1999 with the release of Episode I: The Phantom Menace.  2002 boasted about the same producfion with the release of Episode II, and 2005's Episode III sparked slightly higher production than in 2002.  The very biggest year for unique Star Wars action figure production in history was 2007, the 30th Anniversary of A New Hope, with over 250 unique figures produced in a single year, everything from Original Trilogy to Prequel Trilogy to pre-TV Clone Wars figures featured in Dark Horse comic books.

The Clone Wars TV show debuted in 2008, and kept unique Star Wars action figure production strong for the next few years, declining slowly through the series's 5 seasons, with original and prequel era figures still coming out in solid numbers.  2014 was the slowest year in over a decade, as content production was reset following the Disney acquisition....and then came the launch of the modern era in 2015 with the debut of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, the Sequel Era, and new non-Skywalker movies like Rogue One and Solo: A Star Wars Story

What will 2019 hold, with the release of Star Wars Episode IX, live-action TV with The Mandalorian, and Disney Theme Parks' Galaxy's Edge?  A repeat of 2007 perhaps?  We already got some great news at New York Toy Fair last month, and Star Wars Celebration in Chicago this April is sure to tell us a lot more!  Happy Beeps will be there, so stay tuned!!  For now, browse our Character Reports and our Catalog and see what goodies you can find you didn't know existed!
